Nation of bumper stickers

Printmaking, by virtue of its multiplicity, is a political act. Printmaking enables us to express our ideas and opinions. Create a bumper sticker inspired in something that is important to you. Edition of 25. To be installed on a real bumper and exhibit the piece on campus.
For this installment I created a sticker that emphasized frustration. Throughout recent years, many of the communities I've grown up in in San Jose have been experiencing "persistent displacement" also known as "advanced gentrification." Neighborhoods and family owned business that have defined our identity are being pushed out by big tech companies buying out surrounding land. They claim it will stimulate the local economy, but for who exactly? Rather than assimilate with local culture and promote its growth, they bring in workers from other states that re-difine it. Our commonality and diversity is being jeopardized. As a result, what I once knew and loved is slowly being defined by an exodus.

Image symbolisms:

Leopard: courage, perseverance and beauty of our communities.
Thunder: letting go of fear, embracing power and leadership.
Color Red: invigorates energy, strength while embodying the passion of San Jose.
Meaning of phrase: simply owning property doesn't make you part of a community; nuturing, embracing it and encouraging camaraderie from within is what achieves such unity.
